How to get short author lists using natbibapa option of apacite?

April 15Hits:1

natbib's basic citation commands, such as \citep, produce short author lists by default. For example, the MWE below produces "(Richerson et al., 1997)".

\begin{filecontents}{\jobname.bib} @InCollection{BoydRichersonEtAl:CulturalPhylogenies,   author =  {Richerson, Peter J. and Boyd, Robert and         Borgerhoff-Mulder, Monique and Durham, William H.},   title =   {Are Cultural Phylogenies Possible?},   booktitle =   {Human Nature, Between Biology and the Social Sciences},   pages =   {355-386},   publisher =   {Lawrence Elrbaum Associates},   year =    {1997},   editor =  {Weingart, Peter and Richerson, Peter J. and Mitchell,          Sandra D. and Maasen, Sabine}, } \end{filecontents}  \documentclass{article} %\usepackage[natbibapa]{apacite} \usepackage{natbib} \bibliographystyle{chicago}  \begin{document} \citep{BoydRichersonEtAl:CulturalPhylogenies} \bibliography{\jobname} \end{document}

However, apacite with the natbibapa option produces long author lists. If I uncomment \usepackage[natbibapa]{apacite} and comment out \usepackage{natbib}, I get a long author list, which is apacite's default: "(Richerson, Boyd, Borgerhoff-Mulder, and Durham, 1997)".

If I use apacite without the natbibapa option, then I can get short author lists by using the \shortcite command, but that command's not available with natbibapa.

Is there a way to get short author lists using apacite with natbibapa?
